Weight Loss

Medical Weight Loss Options

At Tri Star Center for Weight Management, we realize not everyone is a candidate for surgery. Maybe your BMI is to low to qualify for surgery or you’re just not ready to move forward with a surgical procedure. We can still help! In fact, our medical weight loss program was created because the same physicians who send patients to us for surgery called and wanted their patients with lower BMI to have access to all of the support services we offer-the dietitians, psychologist led support groups.

Our medical weight-loss programs provide treatment in a clinical setting with a licensed healthcare professional, such as a doctor, registered dietitian and/or a psychologist. These programs offer services such as nutrition and physical activity counseling and behavioral modification counseling.

The cost for the medical weight-loss program varies depending upon the services selected. Health insurance companies may cover some of your treatment although this coverage varies greatly.

Overall, the medical weight management of obesity may include:

  • Education and counseling with a Registered Dietitian
  • Development of an activity plan
  • Education and counseling with a Psychologist regarding behavior modification
  • Discussion of utilization of pharmacotherapy (weight-loss medications)

Currently there are several medications that are approved by the FDA for weight-loss:

  • Phentermine products (Adipex-P® or Suprenza®)*
  • Orlistat (Xenical® or alli®)†
  • Lorcaserin HCI (Belviq®)†
  • Naltrexone HCI AND Bupropion HCI (CONTRAVE®)†
  • Phentermine-Topiramate ER (Qsymia®)†
  • Liraglutide Injection (Saxenda®)†

*Approved for short term use
†Approved for chronic (long term) use
