Hi, I haven't been on the weight loss sight in such a long time. I had my surgery with Dr. Dyer and although I am not one that lost alot of weight up front and thought that I had not done well with the surgery. I am here to tell you that even after 8 years the surgery still works. When I had my surgery the biggest obsticle for me was that I couldn't walk and I thought the biggest outcome was when I lost 50 some pounds and could stand and shop with my kids and my friends. But about 4 years ago I came down with extreme anemia and had to have several blood tansfusions and I was very upset with myself for not having lost more weight and had to have an endoscope done, I asked the doctor how big my stomach was as I assumed it was back to normal size, they told me that it was only the size of an egg. I realized then that the surgery was still working and now I have lost a total of 200lbs. I feel so much better and my GP is amazed that I am still losing weight, so when you get discouraged don't just assume that the surgery doesn't work for life because it does. I feel that because I lost it slower than alot of people that it will stay off alot longer.

Hello everyone...I am sure right about now you are wondering if this surgery is the right thing for you to do. I remember that feelings so much. I knew I was obese and I was desperate to change that but I just didnt know if I could give up my best friend..food. I had my surgery on 11/26/2008 and as of 1/19/2009 I have lost a total of 60 pounds. Isnt that amazing?? In such a short time my life has completely changed. The thing that I have always hated the most about being obese is the time that it took away from my ability to really be there for my children. I wasnt able to play with them or take them out to the park because my knees hurt me so badly anytime I walked or I would run out of air before I even got started.. I had a hard time keeping a job at times because of my weight, as well.It was times like those that made me feel so inadequate and hopeless. What I can tell you is that there is hope and mine came from Centennial. It all started for me when I made that first call to find out what I needed to do to have the surgery. It was a long process for me and I was denied the first time around. The thing is that even through all of that, the team at Centennial was there to support me and they encouraged me to never give up hope. They care so much about each and every one of us and anytime I need a pick me up I go there and someone is always available. Dr. Dyer was my surgeon and I am so grateful to that man for giving me my life back. The one thing I loved and knew about him was that he prays before every surgery. Something about that gave me so much peace. What I can tell you is that I look at food very differently now. At one time "I lived to eat"...now "I eat to live". I was slowly dying because I couldnt stop eating. Today my life is filled with hope, love, wonderful friendship and my life is not controlled by what I am going to eat next or in an hour from now.You dont have to do this alone..I know I didnt. The staff at Centennial and the women and men in the support groups have helped me through my journey and what a wonderful journey it has been and still continues to be!!! God Bless!! I had my gastric bypass surgery on January 14, 2009. All my life I had fought my weight issues. In November of 2007 my husband had gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Dyer. Because of his success I began to carefully consider having the surgery. I had always thought having the surgery would be a sign of giving in to defeat. All the while my denial was creating more and more health problems for me. In addition to high blood pressue, sleep apnia and borderline diabetes, I hurt from my neck to my feet. These issues were beginning to affect my performance as a teacher. It was obvious that my doing nothing was not working for me. Through my husband's encouragement and support, I realized that having the surgery was not a sign of failure but a tool to help me for the rest of my life. The staff at Dr. Dyer's office has been very supportive and encouraging through the whole surgery process. There have been times that I have called the office with questions and concerns and each time I received prompt attention and helpful answers. Let me share one more thought before I close this testimonial. I appreciated the fact that when my husband and I went in Dr. Dyer's office for the first time, we were treated with respect and compassion. I have been in places, even doctor's offices, where I felt "put down" and second rate because of my size. Thanks again for giving me the opportunity for a new life.

Where do you start, when you're talking about one of the best decisions you have made in your life. I am just now right at 5 months out from surgery (Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass). At this point i have lost 120 pounds and feel so much better. I am able to do the things with my kids that i could not do just a few months ago. My primary care Dr. has already taken me off all my meds that i was taking prior to surgery. My wife is so happy I now don't have to use my c-pap. So now she says she sleeps better. LOL Dr. Dyer was my surgeon, from the first meeting with him I was really impressed. He has great bedside manner and answered all my questions, he put me at ease, but the best thing is he could put my wife and family at ease. He has also been great in my post surgery care. As my luck would have it i am one of the less than 5 percent that had a resticture. When i noticed i had a problem I called the office, I was told that they would speak with Dr. Dyer and call me back. In less than five minutes the phone rang, I was so impressed when i answered and Dr. Dyer was on the other end. I was in the office the next day and back on track. His staff is wonderful. They have been great helping me with the transition from obesity. This is by far the best decision i could have made for my health and for my family. I am so thankful to Dr. Dyer and his staff for giving me my life back.

Dr Dyer performed my surgery and he was wonderful, he is kind and thoughtful and a great Doctor. I felt at ease and comfortable the whole time. I was glad to know that I had chosen a Doctor that was a Christian and would watch out for me durning surgery and after. Thanks, Dr. Dyer. Lois Brown

Dr. Dyer did my surgery and he has been wonderful. Always willing to answer and questions as well as encouraging at each visit. The office staff is always smiling and so friendly and willing to help in any way they can. It took me a very long time to get to the point to where I thought surgery was my last hope. But now I know that it was well worth it. I am still new and learning to change a lot of old habits but with the help of so many who have gone before me I know I can do it.

I have struggled with obesity all of my life. I reached an all time high of 351 lbs and decided that I wanted to change my life around. I had RNY with Dr. Olsen on 2/16/04. It was the best thing I have EVER done for myself. Dr. Olsen gave me a tool to help me take control of my addiction to food, and gave me a new lease on life.

Mikki Barr 08/24/04 barrs@esper.com Friendsville, TN Personal Comments: WOW! I had my bariatric surgery on February 10, 2004. I have lost 80 pounds as of my 6 month checkup. I had my surgery in Nashville (a 3 hour drive for me). I had it done with Dr. David Dyer at Centennial Medical Center. The staff and the Doctor were wonderful. I had some minor complications which kept me in the hospital a little longer than I would have liked, but the results have definitely made up for it! Comments About Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity: My first impression of Dr. Dyer (as with all doctors, I'm afraid) is that he was just doing a job. Over time, I realized he does care even though he does not show a lot of emotion. His staff is excellent and very caring. I think the thing I least like about him is the fact that he doesn't spend too much time with the patients, but I do realize he is very busy. My time is just as important, though. I hope that he and any doctor can realize that. He does emphasize aftercare very strongly and they do have a very structured aftercare program. Dr. Dyer addressed all the risks of surgery. Overall, I would rate Dr. Dyer a very competent surgeon.
