Dr. Douglas O. Olsen

Douglas O. Olsen, MD

In 1988, Dr. Olsen became one of the first in the nation to perform laparoscopic gallbladder surgery – a technique that revolutionized the way abdominal surgery is performed in the U.S. Dr. Olsen began performing bariatric surgery in 1999.

Dr. Dyer has an extensive background in laparoscopic surgery, specializing in many major gastrointestinal procedures as well as access for minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Dyer currently serves as Vice President of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Pam Davis, RN, MBA, Certified Bariatric Nurse

Program Director since 2008

Pam has been a nurse for 20+ years and has worked with bariatric surgery patients for 10+ years. Pam had gastric bypass surgery with our program in 2001. In addition to working with you at seminar, support group and via our social media outlets, Pam volunteers with the Obesity Action Coalition, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee.

Kristi Cotham

Kristi Cotham

Insurance Manager since 2011

Kristi has extensive experience in education, training and working with insurers. Kristi works with you primarily before surgery at the seminar and working to obtain insurance approval for your surgery. As manager for the program, Kristi is a resource and mentor to our insurance specialists. Additionally, Kristi represents our program at employer and community health fairs and often leads support group.

Windy Rhoton, RN, BSN

Windy Rhoton, RN, BSN

Assistant Program Coordinator since 2015

Windy has been a nurse for 10+ years and has worked primarily in patient education and critical care. After undergoing sleeve gastrectomy surgery in 2014, Windy seized the opportunity to work with bariatric patients sharing both her personal and professional expertise. Windy works with you primarily at support group and the preparation for surgery class.

Pam Helmlinger, RD, LDN

Pam Helmlinger, RD, LDN, Certified Diabetes Educator

Registered Dietitian since 2006

Pam has been a registered dietitian for 10+ years and has worked exclusively with bariatric surgery and weight loss patients for 8 years. You will see Pam frequently throughout your weight loss journey including at preparation for surgery class, medical weight loss program and your lifelong follow-up visits. Pam often gives cooking demonstrations at support group. Pam has written two bariatric cookbooks. “Bari-licious-Living It, Losing It, Loving It” and “Bari-Delicious-Food for Thought.” Pam also works with the adolescent patients in the FIT4FUN program.

Rachel Brown, RD, Certified Diabetes Educator

Rachel Brown, RD, LDN, Certified Diabetes Educator

Registered Dietitian since 2012

Rachel has been a registered dietitian for 5 years, joining the bariatric program in 2012. You will see Rachel at our preparation for surgery class, group medical weight loss program and group follow-up classes. Rachel gives cooking demonstrations at support group and helped create our two cookbooks. Rachel also works with the pediatric patients in the FIT4FUN program.

Valerie King, RD, LDN

Valerie King, RD, LDN

Registered Dietitian since 2014

Valerie has been a registered dietitian for 20+ years and has extensive experience with patient education in both a group setting and one on one. You will see Valerie primarily for one on one visits to assist you in making healthy choices. You may also see Valerie at our support groups, preparation for surgery classes or group medical weight loss program.

Audrey Turner

Audrey Turner

Exercise Physiologist since 2011

Audrey has been an exercise physiologist for 5+ years. Previously, Audrey worked both in cardiac rehab and with a child fitness program. You will see Audrey at our medical weight loss program, our group follow up option and at one on one visits. Audrey is available to help you begin or expand your current exercise program. We’ve had several patients who after surgery go on to train for the Music City marathon or 1/2 marathon!

Insurance Specialist since 2012

Dallas has mastered the talent of helping you navigate the insurance waters to gain approval for surgery. Dallas works with you from your first encounter with our program through your approval for surgery.

Jackie Douglas

Jackie Douglas

Insurance Specialist since 2013

Jackie is one of your first contacts with our program. She will assist you in registering for the seminar, verify your insurance benefits and work her magic to obtain approval from the insurance for your surgery.
